Melanie Urban
Administrator
Melanie Urban, BSN, RN, serves as Administrator of Pawnee Valley Community Hospital. She has over 30 years of healthcare experience in administration, risk management, accreditation, quality, infection prevention, associate health, case management, and nursing. Melanie received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Fort Hays State University in 1993.
Melanie serves on numerous community organizations in Larned, including the Lions Club and Local Emergency Planning Committee. She is a past president of the Kansas Association of Risk and Quality Management. Melanie is also a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
Leonard Herrman
Director of Human Resources
Leonard Herrman serves as Director of Human Resources for Pawnee Valley Community Hospital. He is responsible for administrative support and oversees Human Resource programs, including recruitment, onboarding, performance management, benefits, and safety. Leonard is passionate about solving problems and helping people advance in their careers.
Previously, Leonard served as Director of Human Resources at the Larned State Hospital and has 30+ years of military and police officer experience.
Leonard received a Bachelor of Science in Management from Baker University and a Master of Public Administration from Wichita State University. He serves as the Larned Volunteer Fire Department’s Fire Chief and Larned Area Chamber Ambassadors member.
Jewel Davis
Director of Clinic Operations
Jewel Davis serves as Pawnee Valley Community Hospital Family Medicine Office Manager. She comes to PVCH with 24 years of experience in business accounting, human resources, and office management. She is motivated and experienced in various high-level personnel management and corporate scenarios, contributing to smooth and productive operations.
Jewel has been at PVCH for two years and is responsible for administrative support as she oversees the clinic’s daily operations. She is also the liaison between patients, their families, and additional care staff. Jewel is passionate about providing the best patient experience with the highest level of patient care.
Jewel graduated from Pratt Community College with a Business Management degree. She is a Larned-area native and serves on the Medical Assistant Advisory Board at Barton County Community College.
Kendra Hagerman
Director of Nursing
Hagerman earned an associate’s degree in nursing at Trinidad State Junior College, Alamosa, Co., in 2010, and a master’s in nursing at Walden University in Minneapolis, Mn., in 2016.
Hagerman’s previous positions at PVCH were registered nurse, Emergency Department supervisor, director of nursing, and administrator.
Her professional background also includes instructor of nursing at Barton Community College; assistant director of nursing at Larned State Hospital’s Psychiatric Services Program; RN at The University of Kansas Health System – Great Bend Campus in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit; and Critical Care Transport for EagleMed.
Hagerman’s goal in her new position is to provide support and leadership to the nurses and other PVCH departments.
Code of Conduct
At Pawnee Valley Community Hospital, we are committed to excellence at every level. The Corporate Ethics and Compliance Program for Pawnee Valley Community Hospital is comprised of policies, procedures, and processes that put into practice our Board of Directors’ commitment to conduct all operations in a manner consistent with all applicable legal requirements and the highest ethical standards.
As part of this Program, the Board of Directors has adopted this Code of Conduct to provide standards by which our Associates shall conduct themselves to protect and promote organization-wide integrity and enhance Pawnee Valley Community Hospital’s ability to achieve its mission.
Assessing Our Community Health Needs
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act set forth requirements that hospitals perform a Community Health Needs assessment every 3 years to determine health needs of the community. The needs assessment is a primary tool used to determine our community benefit plan, which outlines how we will give back to the community in the form of health care and other community services to address unmet community health needs. These reports each present a summary that highlights the data findings, and presents key needs and opportunities for action.

Pawnee Valley Community Hospital Auxilary
The Pawnee Valley Community Hospital Auxiliary is comprised of over 100 committed community volunteers of all ages, genders, and walks of life. The Auxiliary not only keeps the public up-to-date on the needs of the hospital, patients and medical staff, but also helps the hospital carry out special programs designed to enhance the wellbeing of our community.
The Auxiliary shares in the humanitarian work of the hospital by providing financial aid to special hospital projects through their fundraising efforts. This dedicated group of men and women give their time and talents for the benefit of their friends, family and neighbors in this community.
Pawnee Valley Community Hospital has one of the most active auxiliary groups in the state of Kansas. Its Auxiliary actively participates in the following projects:
Angel Tree Project – This project collects donations of clothing and toys for children at Christmas.
Healthcare Appreciation –In September, snack trays are taken to doctors, EMS, fire departments, etc. to thank them for their service to the community.
Employee Appreciation Day – Auxiliary members provide special treats for all PVCH employees annually.
Equipment & Furnishings – Through its fundraisers, the Auxiliary has provided several pieces of equipment for the hospital, including recliners, wheelchairs, defibrillators, thermometers, whiteboards, and wall clocks. They also have provided funding for a Lab Analyzer, two Sure System units for environmental services, and the Healing Garden.
Gift Shop – The Auxiliary operates the hospital gift shop as a service to the staff and public.
Sixth Grade Health Fair – This event is held to provide information about healthcare, hygiene, peer pressure and making good choices. They work closely with the schools and the community to provide these educational resources for sixth graders.
Luminaries – One of the largest fundraisers of the year, Luminaries light the front lawn of the hospital throughout the month of December in remembrance and in honor of family and friends.
Nursing Scholarships – Four nursing scholarships are given annually for $500 each.
Diagnostic Imaging Escort – For mammogram patients, PVCH auxiliary members provide an escort to the mobile unit.
Pawnee Valley Community Hospital Foundation
The Pawnee Valley Community Hospital Foundation was formed in 2012 and is a charitable non-profit 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to advance quality healthcare in Pawnee County. The Foundation, in partnership with their donors, seeks to meet both immediate and long-range healthcare needs in Pawnee County.
The Foundation is guided by a group of local Trustees who have been selected for their leadership roles in the community, along with their vision for the success of the Foundation. Each Trustee understands the value of quality healthcare for the citizens of Pawnee County and knows the importance of staying on top of advancing healthcare.
From our Healing Garden and Legacy Tree to our state-of-the-art 3D mammography capabilities, 64-slice CT scanner and wide bore, short-tube 1.5 Tesla MRI technology, the Foundation has invested resources to provide exceptional care, technology and necessary resources to our hospital and community.
